It's central to many questions I've been thinking about. There's a legitimate concern that some design changes which are intended to improve accessibility for new players might come at the cost of depth for veteran players. This accessibility is helped significantly by the game's single player campaign, which is improving daily and allows players to hone their skills before venturing online. New players tend to be able to pickup Tribes: Vengeance more easily and feel effective enough to have a good time. With this testing under way I continue to believe that one of the game's biggest strengths is its ease of access compared to previous Tribes games.
Open beta quickly approaches, so pretty soon everyone will have a chance to play and offer feedback. In general there's a lot of discussion about how the game flows offensively and defensively and what can be done to ensure that Tribes: Vengeance has the depth and longevity of its predecessors. We're doing our best to take their feedback into account. And they're all contributing to the tuning and balance of the game. Some testers are also concerned about the core player physics. Their biggest concern seems to be the design and balance of maps. Our current testers are cautiously optimistic for the most part.
It's clear that we still have work to do, but the game's features are complete. The testers are busy finding the worst of the bugs and offering suggestions for improvement. Tribes: Vengeance multiplayer is now undergoing limited beta testing.
